He is considered the heartthrob of the series. He is known to be a shinobi genius, and a young man with a tragic past. For those who are not familiar with the series let me spoil you a bit. Sasuke Uchiha is the last of his clan know as the Uchiha Clan. This clan was consider to be the one of the best ninja clans in the world. Then, on one fateful night the entire Uchiha clan was slaughterer all at once, in a single night. By whom you ask? None other than the clan's prodigy son, Itachi Uchiha.
This incident left Sasuke emotional scarred for life and made it his ultimate mission in life to track down his brother, and seek revenge for his clan. Now this backstory is very similar to Bruce Wayne, parents killed right in front of him, being left scarred for life, and using his experience to make sure that nothing like that happens to anybody else.......well maybe not that last part. Now before I go any further, let me say that nothing is more serious, and traumatizing than seeing your own family being killed right in front of you, and own might not be one of the happiest folks around after that experience, but there is a way of carrying on, and behaving, and not becoming a complete, and utter bastard. With that being said, Sauske Uchiha is a badly developed character. He, is just an unlikeable guy, with no redeemable qualities about him what-so-ever. Putting aside his tragic past, this guy is down to the wire, an unlikeable person. I'm no talking about him in the first half of the series, I'm talking about him from part II, going forward. what really get's me is the fact that during this whole time throughout the entire time, he has absolutely stayed the same.
When the series first started, it was all about Naruto becoming the underdog, and working his way up the ranks to becoming hokage, which in his village is the highest positions of ninja there is. Sausuke's situation was actually subplot in the series, but still maintained itself as an minor aspect of the series, while still focusing on Naruto. Fast-forward to Shippuden(the second part of the series, for those who are not familiar with the Naruto franchise.) and the became the sole focus on the series, so much that the main character has made him the focus of his goals. This right here is the first problem, the series is called,"Naruto", not "Sasuke, the guy with more emotional baggage than a drug addicted child actor." We don't need to see how Sasuke has become more of an angst-ridden emo over those past 2 years.
The second issue is the fact of what an unlikeable character this guy has become. During the first series, he was more of a cool, laid back kid who used his knowledge to get him though various situations. Even though he was a bit of an elitist character back then, he was at least open to character development, and had a chance to be a great character to study the psychology inside the human mind.
Then came shippuden.........
I WILL DEVOUR YOUR SOUL, CONSUME YOUR FLESH, AND FORCE YOUR LOVED ONES TO SIT THROUGH MINDLESS NARUTO FILLER ARCS THAT WILL DEAL WITH MY ANGST AND DOUCHEBAGGERY ............. |
The thing that really made me had it with this character, is the fact that after his "victory", from fighting his brother, Itachi; he soon discovers that Itachi actually killed his clan because they were planning to start a genocide on the people of the village. Granted, the village elders put them on the spot for being under suspicion of releasing the nine-tailed fox into Konaha, but they were actually trying to settle this the peaceful way. It was the Uchiha Clan that was trying to start a civil war. Anyway, Itachi was tasked by Danzo to slaughter everyone in the Uchiha clan to avoid a civil war, but he insisted to spare Sasuke, in the hopes that he would restore honor to the Uchiha clan. Thus resulting in Sasuke learing the cold hard truth about his brother.......
I Just learned that my angst........has to go on for another 200+ chapters |
Now, one would think after this revelation would lead sasuke to think about the choices he made in his life, and think about the sacrifice the his brother made to ensure his future
Now granted, he should be mad at the people who was responsible for his family's death, especially Danzo; who at this point in the series is proven himself to be a real prick. Yes, Danzo got what he deserved, but not the rest of the innocent people in Konoha. Yes folks, Saskue is going to commit a genocide of the people of Konoha . In spite of everything his brother sacrificed to make sure that he can go back to the village.
What The Serious F**K |
What really gets me is the fact that fans of this series openly accept the fact that if you have a bad childhood, that gives you the excuse to extraordinarily violent, evil, inhumane things. This is show cased by so many antagonists in this series who are complete bad characters in their own right, but that's moving away form the main subject. This is what Sasuke Uchiha promotes; not taking personal responsibility for your life, and blaming everyone but yourself on how shitty your life has become. That's not maturity, in fact, that's the pure trait of immaturity.
One last thing, i'm completely disappointed by the main character, Naruto; who has completely let this guy overtake his priorities. He thins that Sasuke is still his best friend, and that he still needs saving. I some what don't blame him for thinking this way, which is another reason why I dislike Sasuke even more , because he knows this, and uses this to fuel his ego. This is not friendship. I know this next line is going to controversial, but i really think this ought to be pointed out. I'm not a psychology major, but i know for a fact that this is something related to battered wife's syndrome. You put the abused person through son much trauma, and stress, they constantly think that this is what a "healthy" relationship is. A real friend doesn't get you beat up, humiliated in front of people of powerful positions, hyperventilate form the stress that you caused them, that's not friendship. Unfortunately, this is the relationship between Naruto, and Saskue. Until Naruto get's it in his head that Saskue doesn't like him, and is only using him to fuel his own ego.
